This month, we are delighted to spotlight the Michael White Archive, celebrating his extensive photo archive featuring everyone from Yoko Ono to Kate Moss and Bob Geldof. White broke boundaries as a producer, bringing to life The Rocky Horror Show, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, all of which redefined British culture in the 1970s. Much of this archive is being seen for the first time, offering rare, relaxed portraits of distinguished figures.
We are also highlighting Italian photographer Sandro Vannini, celebrated for his documentation of ancient Egypt. With rare access to restricted sites, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, Vannini has built an extraordinary archive capturing tombs, artefacts and monuments through highly specialised digital techniques. Sandro Vannini is a renowned Italian photographer who has worked professionally since 1982. Based between Viterbo, Italy and Cairo, he is best known for documenting ancient Egyptian heritage with exclusive access to renowned sites normally off-limits, most recently photographing within The Grand Egyptian Museum. Vannini’s extensive archive includes photographs of Tutankhamun’s tomb, artefacts, monuments and landscapes, captured using unique digital techniques tailored to Egypt’s demanding conditions.
Vannini and his team developed bespoke solutions, such as using HMI lights for consistent colour and ice-cooled aluminium boxes to prevent equipment overheating. Alongside his photographic archive, Vannini has contributed significantly to the preservation and interpretation of Egyptian heritage. His images support restoration work at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and serve as an essential visual record for scholars and conservators. His pioneering approach to photography has transformed how Egypt’s cultural legacy is visually recorded.
